ref.: self published very interesting book
Thanks for that link. I think I already glanced at it, though
It would be interesting to know how it was self-published. It seems to have two ISBNs and has a publisher's name associated with it. But one thing is obvious, she did a lot of promotional work for it, which would be all the public speaking she did, at least. It really proves that one cannot simply SP a book then sit back and wait. It also helps if one has a very newsworthy story, which it does seem to be. But not to my taste, so I won't be buying it. I may not even watch it when it becomes a film, as it no doubt will

ref.: Having Difficulty Logging In to the Forum?
Look, this browser is weird and I am not used to it. It is not pleasant. I would very much like to use Firefox. Anyway, I did what I came to do: remove my signature. My website was hacked, again. I fixed it but who knows when it will happen again. I think it's time to blow up this whole forum and go back the previous one. It has been long and painful to use. Goodnight everyone. And Merry Christmas if I can't log in again.

The work around, for now, is to use the Opera browser. Click on Unblock in the top right-hand corner of the screen when it tells you that content has been blocked and then you will be logged in.
I had just about given up on the forum when I tried Opera and…hey presto!

I overlooked the preview. We have a pretty short time frame to format the book once we get our winners selected.Just Kevin said:Hrmm, there's rather a lot of Frontmatter to view in the print book Preview.
I'll get in there an update it to actually show the first story as a preview.
EDIT: I just updated the preview to show the entire book. Should be live for all volumes now.

Well no offence but I like them just they way they now are, and can read the tag lines perfectly. They may work better in white though.

ref.: How Do You Set Margins For A 6 by 9 Book?
You can set whatever size you want, but as you have discovered, the trimming may not be as you expected.

I don't actually mind the designs. I bought some books from Waterstones because they had Waterstones exclusive covers (apparently!)

As you can see, mostly black, although there are bits of colour.
However, what I would say to Mark is, try to keep your cover content away from the edges or it may be trimmed off or in the case of hardbacks, folded over the cardboard, and note that it's not always printed central.

I like that they are thematic, that is, they have a common theme. I also like that they are very distinct: No one picking up the sword book would think it was the necklace book, or vice versa. The artwork is very well done, from a technical standpoint, and the tree contrasts nicely with the sword / necklace. The monochromatic palette suggests a certain austerity and solemnity. Nice art, very nice.
With that said, the series title is extremely large compared to the book title. I would reverse that. I might even increase the author's name by a few points.
I would like to see a front cover version in which the tree in the background stretches from bleed edge to spine edge (that is, fills the background)
Also, Ron is right that the cover doesn't give much of a clue. I am having to rely on the words to know what to expect. Still, it could work.
