My Book does not have chapters but icons - Need advice for ebook upload

Hi Guys,

Thank you ever so much for the great advice over the past year.

I have learnt so much from you all.

Of course, there is only one thing I have not learnt to master and that is how to find my questions that have been replied to within a day or week; but, unfortunately, it takes me months to find the answers.

Now I am ready to upload an ebook.

I have reformated the text and created a TOC.  Unfortunately, it has been rejected.

My problem is this...My novel does NOT have chapter names.  It has an icon.

I do have part one, two and three.  I do have a title page, etc..

but no chapters...the chapter divides are represented by the picture icon...

How do i resolve the rejection?

Thanking you in advance for the quick response.

Assign Heading style 1 to the Parts.

  • Hi Maggie,

I did that and it rejected it.

    I will try again though...

  • Do you mean the sections which are part one two and three? Or the icons at the beginning of each chapter Maggie?  Thanks for responding.  I will review your added info above too.

  • Em_PressEm_Press Professor

Only the Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

If you have no chapters then that is fine.

If they are rejecting it even after you have done that, there  must be another reason.

If they are images, do not assign the icons Heading styles 1, 2 or 3 or they will appear as blank in the toc. Create a new unique style for them if you want.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to assign a section name before
each icon: one, two, etc. Set these to Heading style 1 and set the
color of the Heading Style to white so that you do not see them.

Your book will now format correctly and the reader will see your
icons (inserted as a jpeg and not copied and pasted into the document)
as the seperator between the different sections.

To pass all you need in the TOC is the Title Page and the Copyright Page. Just apply HS 1 to the Title and HS 1 to the word Copyright at the top of the Copyright page.

As to using icons as chapter headings, that would also look strange in a printed book's TOC, unless you mean that those icons are numbers or something.

  • Just to update you - in the end I gave up and asked the staff to help me.

Within forty eight hours they created the ebook for me and I am very satisfied.

I just want to say thank you ever so much for your kind guidance.

I tried but started to understand your instructions and will attempt to create my own ebook on the next writing journey.

Thank you for the great support.

I love, the people are ever so self less...and so caring and sharing.

    Thanks maggie.

    Sorry for the delayed response.

I tried...but just gave up and asked the staff to help.

  • Thank you Daniel.

I failed miserably but have noted what you and the others recommend for next time.

I gave up and asked lulu to take over.

Thank you for taking time out to answer me.

    Best regards.
