Amazon hardcover preview image cut off

Today I noticed the Amazon preview image of my hardcover book’s front cover is annoyingly cut off from the left side. The cover is okay in Lulu previews, and it fits fine in the printed copies I’ve ordered from Lulu.

Is there some difference how Lulu and Amazon handle the cover? If someone orders my book from Amazon, will the cover image be cut off like it shows in Amazon’s preview?

Yes, I had this happen to about ten books. Lulu staff wrote and wrote to Amazon to fix it.  Finally, after a dozen emails they figured out the lulu template doesn't match the Ingrams template for hardcover books.

The solution: download a template from Ingram Spark and use that. Then upload to lulu. Or, leave all content far far away from edges, especially edge near spine. Still, you must have background art cover the entire cover space.

    Good luck.

Attached example of casewrap template. All text must be away from blue. Background must exist on blue.

  • Thanks, Maggie. I made a revised cover with smaller text. Now it should fit without clipping.

Being a newbie to self-publishing, I had no idea there would be this kind of issues.

My pleasure, Mikaeno. It would have been impossible to know. Lulu has been looking into making cover templates for years.

  • We do have new templates! We just can't link them to the template download button on because of technical reasons I don't fully understand...
Anyway, we have template bundles on Lulu xPress found near the bottom of this page:
These SHOULD match up with Ingram's templates for covers.

    That's great to know, Paul.

Can one log into lulu xpress with the same login iinformation as lulu.

Anyway, I'll try to log in one of these days.

  • Not at the moment (though I don't think you need to be logged in to get the templates).
We're going to have the logins merged into a single account before the end of the year I'm told.
