Margins for gutter of perfect bound pocketbook

Hi there,

Could anyone offer some advice? I am working on an Indesign document to create a 48 page pocketbook. I have set the margin in the gutter as 1.2cm, but I'm worried that this will be reduced by the gluing of the perfect bind. Does Lulu adjust for this, or should I increase the gutter margin for the inside pages by approx 0.5cm?

With thanks,

  • Our system does not automatically allow for the gutter, so you should increase the inner margin slightly to allow for this.

If you're using Word or other common text editors, you should be able to "mirror" the margins so that the gutter alternates odd and even pages, and you can easily increase that inner margin to allow for the binding.

  • Thanks Paul, this is very much appreciated. One final query, could you be more specific than 'slightly' for a 48 page pocketbook, measuring 10.8cm x 17.45cm.

  • Our normal suggestion is for 0.5" (1.27cm) margins all the way around, with an additional 0.3" (0.762cm) added for the gutter.
