I'm new at this and looking to have a text book style hardback. I don't use Word, and when I download the hardcover casewrap template, I get the notification through my software that it may not look the same, which defeats the point.

Am I correct that I should set the page size to 8.25x10.75 with the margins to the following:

Left       1.3"

Right     1"

Top       0.6"

Bottom  0.6"

I'm guessing the extra .3 on the left is for the binding. Still, it seems like a lot of white space around the edges, or did something go awry in the file conversion from Word to Pages?

I would do something a littl emore balanced, with mirrored pages.

    Example:

.3 gutter  if your book is over 250 pages.  .2 if it's less.

    Then, .6 margins all around.

.5 for a lower page count.

.7 all around for a higher page count.

    and so on.

    Your choice.

  • That looks much better. Thanks, Em_Press. The page should still be 8.25x10.75 and not standard letter size though?

The size is fine, but it does not have distribution.

If you want distribution,  go for 6x9.

If you have a picture on the front, make it spread beyond the edges and/or fill the outer margins with the colour of your choice, otherwise you might have a white band along one of the edges of the resulting cover.
