Lulu advertising on yahoo home page: feedback

I wonder if the new advertising on Yahoo home page is seeing results. If not, imho, it may be because it flashes on and off and only shows the book front. How is a person to know what the book is about? If you are only doing it for name recognition, ok.  Maybe you should consider including some good reviews of a few books and leave them on for longer than a few seconds? Good luck--I hope it's working!

I also like the Staff Picks--though I don't know how to get my book picked. Do I send a copy to one of the staff members and ask for a review? If you read my book you'd like it Smiley Happy

Happy holidays to all of you at Lulu.

I have no idea, I have not heard of that. Is it some new Lulu option? I am just now looking at Yahoo's Home Page and it seems to be news.

  • Hi Plainsong

To see what the book is about, you only have to click on the book in the ad - and like magic - the book's product page will open allowing you to read the summary and make the purchase.

The staff picks usually come from the customer support and distribution teams, but anyone of our 85 employees can suggest a book be highlighted as a staff pick. The nominees are then vetted by the Marketing team to ensure the book meets certain requirements - i.e. does not include nudity on the cover, are of general interest, speak to a particular demographic, match a current campaign, etc.

  • I saw a revolving ad of some type that rotated books and sent each book in return to the center allowing a better look. I did see my book Reflections of a Christian Kungfu Master on there. Not sure where I saw this, ebay or some site can't remember.

  • It's possibly one of those shared advert thingies. I once had one an old site of mine. A banner. The idea is that 1000s of site owners sign up to it and each sites' advert appears on all the other sites, timed of course.

I dropped it because you have no control over the other adverts and some were for porn sites. Smiley Surprised I assume Yahoo control the content and how long it shows for, but the advertisers cannot.

But how do our books get listed on it and where do the links lead to?

  • @kevinlomas

It's a giant conspiracy concocted by the rulers of the internet.

When you look at something on one site and navigate to another site, magically the thing you were looking at on the previous site is often displayed as an advertisement on the site to which you navigated.

    It's the same principal.

Ah yes, the Facebook method. Not if you delete cookies every few seconds. Smiley Tongue

There are some sites that can now arrange some kind of commission whenever you click on some advert, the name of them slips my mind though.  I think this is an example >>     http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=HaxpZeOvhDlD%2F6mhuRRx%2Bw%3D%3D&eeid=26471

There's this kind of thing as well >>   http://www.digitaltrends.com/web/want-to-get-paid-for-surfing-the-web-then-join-googles-screenwise-project/   but it's not exactly generous.
