@ kevin
I uploaded/published a PDF in the eBook section of Lulu.

The PDF opens at "Fit Width" at default showing 2 pages at a time.

Re: Uploading ebook background image

Well yes I understand that, but why are you doing it as if one page is two pages? Why not, for example, create each page to the same sideways shape/size as an Ipad? But why are you limiting to an ipad anyway? There are dozens of devices just the same.

Re: Uploading ebook background image

Because showing it one page at a time will show only half of the landscape image that spans across 2 pages and my boss hates it. She wants to see 2 pages in the viewport so the panoramic pictures will be displayed in one piece.

@ kevin

What would be the maximum ideal size (in pixels) for each page when you're targetting all types of eReaders? 612 x 792? or more?

Re: Uploading ebook background image

Would I be right in thinking that you are trying to recreate a printed book that has images that run across two pages? If so then I do not see the need to do that in a PDF ebook. I don't own any form of ereader or tablet, but I am sure they just show what there is to see do they not? Fit Screen, Resize Frame, or zoom in or out, single to multi-page, or whatever. That's how PDFs work on my PC at least. It sounds to me as if all you need to do is do two pages as one landscape.

Re: Uploading ebook background image

@ kevinlomas

Yes this a PDF version of the book but I'm only uploading the PDF version (not the PDF of the book for print). I've already published one book in LuLu for printing and I had to upload to types of PDF. One for print and one for eBook download.

This time we're only uploading the PDF version for Free eBook download and I used the Publish > Ebook option this time. last time I used the Publish > Book option

Did I do it correctly?

Thanks for your help guys.

@ Ken

Thank you but I know how to create that kind of marketing image. Here's what I mean.

Do a Search on Pollution (Don't forget to choose eBooks under All Products so only eBooks will show). Look at the thumbnail images. They're all Portrait size but mine is Landscape (Pollution/Remediation).

I want to create a Landscape marketing image.

But I think you're right when you said that the layout of the PDF affects the marketing image's orientation as well. meaning that we can't create a Portrait marketing image if our book size is landscape. So I'm going to experiment. I'll create a new version of this PDF that's 8 1/2" x 11" and see if LuLu's cms will allow me to upload a 612 x 792 pixels marketing image.

Re: Uploading ebook background image

John,
Please read my email to you.

In the meantime further research shows that your PDF is the cause of the problem.
For a standard portrait PDF eBook or EPUB the required size of the marketing image is 612 x 792px.
For a standard landscape the required size of the marketing image is 792 x 612px.

In my opinion your PDF cannot be properly viewed on a PC or an iPad. It appears as though you have selected the wrong InDesign export settings.
