Upon approval of your distribution license agreement you agree to submit a completed W-9 or a W-8BEN form (attached below). You can also find the forms on the United State Internal Revenue Services website.

The information on your submitted tax forms must match the payee information you entered under Payment Contacts

Important Note: Once we receive a completed tax form (W-9 or W-8BEN), the payee's Name, Address, Taxpayer Type, and Tax Identification Number will be locked. To update this information, you must contact Lulu Support and submit a new tax form. Click I Still Need Help to open a support request. Please attach your updated tax form before submitting the request.

US Tax Payers:

Please complete and return tax form W-9 (attached below).

You may submit your form directly from our email support page. Click My Account > Taxes > Income Tax Information and choose I Still Need Help. Attach your completed tax form, add any additional required information, and click Submit.

You may also mail or fax the completed and signed W-9 form to the following address:

Attn: Royalties Support
Lulu Press, Inc.
3101 Hillsborough Street
Raleigh, NC 27607

Fax: 919-459-5867

Non-US Tax Payers:

When an author is considered to be a Foreign Entity, the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires Lulu to withhold taxes on any sale to US customers. To reduce this withholding (to the percentage specified by your country's relevant tax treaty with the US) you must submit an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to us on a W-8BEN form. Once we have received the completed W-8BEN, we can reduce the tax percentage withheld.

If you do not have an ITIN and wish to obtain one, you must apply directly with the IRS by submitting the required documents as well as Form W-7 and a letter from Lulu stating that you are, indeed, a Lulu creator (attached below). Please understand that we cannot assist you in this part of the process in any way other than to provide you with the forms and our letter.

The IRS is notorious for long, silent delays and unexpected rejections due to overlooked details.
Therefore, we urge you to pay very close attention when submitting the required materials in order to avoid the frustrations many Lulu authors have experienced. With that said, the task is not impossible as there are many Lulu authors who have made it through the process and are now enjoying their relevant tax treaty benefits.

Please note: When you have completed the W-8BEN form, it must be mailed to Lulu; faxed or emailed copies are not valid.

Lulu will accept a W-8BEN form without a US tax id number. In this case, your account will be designated as non-US, meaning you will be taxed only on sales of projects with a Lulu ISBN delivered to US destinations. The tax rate in this case is 30%.
