Lulu charges way too much for shipping. Shipping by Media Mail would be about a third of what Lulu charges for shipping. it would seem so much more fair and cooperative if Lulu charged the actual cost of shipping. Then I woiuldn't have to look for a more affordable POD provider.
Consider adapting the shipping cost based on soft-/hard cover and number of pages.
The price of shipping currently does not take into account the weight of the items. I noticed that adding e.g. 30 copies of a book results in the same shipping cost whether the book has 52 or 256 pages or is soft or hard cover. As a result, for small books, the shipping costs make a disproportionate part.
I promote and sell my published books in various ways and sometimes ship myself from inventory and sometimes order books to be shipped by Lulu. When I sell a book I have in stock and am paid through PayPal, I have the ability to print a shipping label on PayPal for shipment via Media Mail with delivery confirmation. This is very economical and both I and the buyer can track the shipment. I don't understand why I can't do the same for shipments originating at Lulu. I need delivery confirmation for even the ground shipping option.
I will like to suggest that Lulu should bring down the shipping price in order for customers to be able to buy more books.
I am an author and I have my work published on here but it is so bad that I have to pay 2.99 for every copy of books i order at a go. If i'm ordering more than 1 book at a go, books are not that heavy that I should have to pay the same price for each copy. If something can be done about this, I'm sure there will be an increase in sale on this website.
It's difficult to find/understand the shipping costs for books. I was told by a support technician that I would have to build the entire (photo) book in order to get a price at check out. Of course, that's not a reality when one is investigating sources for a large quantity retail venture.
It's the only site that I have had any diffculty accessing shipping charges, which is so basic. Site navigation for shipping is awkward. My suggestion is to have a look at Blurb's fast, efficient and user friendly system.
It's such a shame as I was very impressed with the size options.
