I am in the debt of Mr. Woodward for his instructions on how to embed fonts so that the book content file can be submitted in pdf. Lulu has a pdf conversion system for those who submit their text in rtf, but it does work very well. It mis-numbers the last page, it changes the size of the pages, in short, it alters the text in unpredictable ways. But on my cheap used laptop, the pdf format, with the fonts embedded as Mr. Woodward described how to set it up works perfectly. If my cheap pdf program can work, it seems that the Lulu program should produce something as faithful to the original.
I also just realized that my graduate school which required all dissertations to be typed in LaTex, a most troublesom format, gets converted to pdf before it is printed. I could have saved months if I could have gotten away with going from word to pdf and nobody would be any the wiser.
