Keep customer reviews when a project is updated

I recently revised a project, the new publishing file just had a few ammendments to the layout. Content is exactly the same.

In the process of revising my project I lost the only customer review I had which was a 5 star review.

I think it would be helpful not to retire customer reviews when a project is updated, now it looks as though no one has purchased my book.

I agree wholeheartedly with this suggestion.  My book had several thoughtful and fairly lengthy reviews that people had taken the time to write, and they were all blown away when I uploaded a revision to fix some typos.  This was a real loss.  And surely an author isn't likely to make revisions that make people like his book LESS.

I suppose if a book had a bunch of BAD reviews, complaining about (say) the lack of an index, an author might upload a new revision with an index, and this might make some of the reviews obsolete, but I think that could be handled by just letting authors delete reviews selectively, or giving them the option to delete reviews or not.  You might argue that this gives the author too much control over the presentation of his book here, but the present system already allows an author to delete all reviews anyway (by just uploading a new revision).  I can't see any downside in letting an author opt to retain the existing reviews of his book.

I am sure this was Suggested not long ago, and the answer remains the same. The system takes in to account that some people Revise so much that their book is almost a different book! (And I am not joking). So really in one way the system is being fair to potential buyers because the reviews may no longer be valid.

It is possible for writers to write their own anyway, simply by logging off the account the book was created on. It's how some books get all those stars almost as soon as the book appears.

BTW. Writers have to take the bad reviews with the good.

There are two schools of thought on this issue and there are equally good arguments made from each perspective.

• From the creator's perspective, authors dedicate a significant amount of time creating and marketing their works. When a reader feels strongly enough to take the time to submit a thoughtful and considered review about the work, authors feel as if their efforts are recognized, appreciated, and justified.
• From a technology perspective, product reviews and rankings are associated with the product number used to identify a work in the system. When a product is revised, it receives a new product number to differentiate the revised work from the previously released edition. We assign new product numbers to insure your readers receive the most recent version of your work.
• Based on the recent feedback on this topic, our product management team is exploring a possible solution that maintains best industry practices while meeting the needs of our authors.
• Until this solution is released, Knowledge Base articles will be updated to provide additional information for authors considering a revision to a published work.
