Change the online layout and proofing interface and check .doc templates for errors

I have major issues with other things on LULU.  Your support guy - Chris, was great.  I didn't know about the chat support help - maybe it would have save two weeks of my life formatting in a template (from your site) that was set up incorrectly.

Also, the graphic interface for the book cover is small and very confusing.  You have two completely different sizes to work from.  One, that you download showing crop marks - and that is completely different from the one that you get online when you upload your cover.  That was very confusing.  And then, when I use your exact measurements to build my cover, I upload it only to find that it doesn't fit into that tiny online template.  It was hard to see the crop marks, etc. (way too small)  Very strange.  That entire interface needs to be much larger so we can actually see the crop marks.  And then, after all of that - the online proof of my cover still had white lines around the outside of the safe area -with no indication of where the crop lines were.  So, add the crop marks onto your online proof so we can see just what we are getting.  That part was an absolute nightmare.  I still have no idea where the cover is going to print - that's why I had to order an online proof - just to see.

So in addition to making your cover templates and proofing better - check your document templates as well - because there are issues as well.  I hope that helps.

Thanks for this! Yes I too had problems with the interface (making selected text bold and when I click 'Apply' it makes everything bold, etc) so it can be frustrating at times. In the end just keep checking preview as that is how your project will end up looking in the end regardless. Otherwise with a few tweaks it's very much on track!

And I'm not the Chris mentioned above, by the way! :smileytongue:

Change the online layout and proofing interface

Huh? There is no such thing on Lulu ...

and check .doc templates for errors

Well, after most people have had a try at one, they  then create their own, it's not hard.

Also, the graphic interface for the book cover is small and very confusing.

It is the size of your screen.

You have two completely different sizes to work from.

Well, no you have not.

One, that you download showing crop marks - and that is completely different from the one that you get online when you upload your cover.  That was very confusing.

All you need to know is the size/shape of your book Project type and create images to fit. They are the same size as your pages. There are no need for templates, the Wizard is one.

And then, when I use your exact measurements to build my cover, I upload it only to find that it doesn't fit into that tiny online template.

Sorry? What tiny template?

It was hard to see the crop marks, etc. (way too small)  Very strange.  That entire interface needs to be much larger so we can actually see the crop marks.

Sorry, I do not get you, you can make it as large as your screen and you can even zoom in.

And then, after all of that - the online proof of my cover still had white lines around the outside of the safe area -with no indication of where the crop lines were.

The trick is to make the background colour match your images, or just make it black, or make larger images.

So, add the crop marks onto your online proof so we can see just what we are getting.

?  What Proof? If you mean the PR PDF file, * that is basically a WYSIWYG looksee and are the files used to print your book.

That part was an absolute nightmare.  I still have no idea where the cover is going to print - that's why I had to order an online proof - just to see.

See above *
