I would really like to make a poetry book, but the templates are not adjustable at all. I would like to be able to adjust the width of the text boxes, add more, add columns, etc. The layout is part of the poem, and the text boxes do not allow me to present my poetry the way I have it written.
I have published poetry books on Lulu before. In my opinion there is nothing that a template can provide than an ordinary doc can't provide, you have total control over lay out including spacing and justification. Would it not be worth trying that route instead?
I have an issue as well with the layout of the poetry books. Some of my poems are cut right off the page because they do not meet the set in stone columns. What is the point of offering the options of poetry book layouts if you cannot fit full length poems on the pages?
Hi I don't know what happened just now but a lost this link, (probably hit the wrong key), anyway,yesterday I published a poetry book.
To make sure the pages are just as I want them to look I do the following;
*Download the template for the size book i desire
*Open the Front cover in preview
*open Microsoft Publisher > page setup > custom size to match cover size of pages > click OK
*>Arrange>margins guides > 19mm outside/ top / bottom and 25mm inside/gutter click OK
*>View > Taskpane > Master pages > two page master > make text box INSIDE THE MARGINS > insert page numbers IN CURRENT TEXTBOX.
*Return to publishing page and STAY INSIDE the set margin guides with ALL TEXT BOXES AND PICTURES.
I use Publisher because it gives more freedom of page layouts and backgrounds(even allows self templated backgrounds control.
**If you right click on your 'grouped' pics and text boxes, Publisher gives you the choice to 'SAVE AS' your whole page as a 300dpi jpg, in your picture folder. I find this useful for up loading pages in the order I want them printed in my book.
I also use my printer software to make an Adobe PDF direct from the Publisher document of my books inside pages if they are just text.
The only other program I use for formatting and creating a picture-book page or picture is Photoshop CS2, But I still use the basic guide measurements of the Lulu front cover.
I hope someone finds this useful.
