formatting problem--line in header and footer in ustrade template

The ustrade template puts an automatic line in the header and footer when I try to create a blank header and footer. I can live with those lines if Lulu wants them there.  But when I try to have a completely blank last page, I find it impossible to get rid of those lines at the top and bottom of the page. How can I solve this please?  I have tried doing a section break between the last page of the novel and the blank last page.  I have tried deleting the header and footer, but nothing I do gets rid of the lines.  Please help.  I am ready make to my PDF and upload.  I will be devastated if  these lines in the header and footer on the last page  keep me from having distribution.

No, Lulu does not want them there, in fact I do not think Lulu even created those templates, Lulu users a long time ago did.
The problem with the templates is they do not have every setting you need (and often more than you need!) and if you do not know how to change or create defaults then thaey are useless.
You need to use Section Breaks, and when you do you will be able to set defaults for each Section. Normally every page as far as the page before where the story starts is one Section, the story another Section, and every thing beyond the story another Section.
You do not have to upload a PDF, Lulu's wizards will work with docs and docx also. It's all I use.

No, the wizard only converts what you upload, you have to change things in your file first.

I have tried doing the section break and I can get rid of the header and page number, but the lines are still there on the header and footer.     I'm wondering if  this problem has something to do with the fact that I am using word 2010.Maybe somehow this template is incompatible with it.  Thanks so much for your input.

I've eownloaded the e-book, but I'm trying to decide what program to use to open it. I am using word 2010.

You need to open the Header/ Footer control and just edit the defaults.

If you mean Ken's PDF, just click it and it should open.
