What are the dotted lines for? Boundaries for photo in photobook?

I'm creating a Photo Book. Please tell me if the dotted lines surrounding the area in which the photo is to be placed are the actual boundaries of the image in print. 

What I see when I do this online on Lulu is the photo passing beyond the dotted lines to the edge of the book. I just don't know if the dotted lines mean the end of the image or what.

Please tell me what the dotted lines mean, and how far the image will go in actual print.  Thank you!

Yus indeedy, the dotted lines are where your book ends (and your image) it's always a good idea to have a bit of border when designing your cover before uploading it to Lulu to avoid losing a vital bit of your image.

The dotted line is the page boundary. Effectively where the book will be cropped.

Photos or pictures must fit into the placeholders.

Thanks for your quick reply.  Just to clarify: Does that mean the dotted lines are where the photo image will end as well?

Only if the dotted line is on the edge of a placeholder. By the way at the end of creating the book you can download the print ready PDF to confirm just how the book will be printed. Always worth while doing so as you can then go and revise if necessary.

The placeholder is the area where you drop the photo/image into.

i am new to photobook and have been trying to upload a scanned image form a newspaper and even though I have resized the photo manytimes, when I place itm, it still crops off on the page. How can I fix this - the scanned image is not a4 size but is long and narrow
