I've been working on translating my web site into a book, and looked at the publishing options. I've realized that all of the wonderful pictures that I have on my web site will make the book way too expensive.
With that in mind, I can go through and remove artwork - but if I leave it in there and ask for a B&W book, will it just print all of the pictures in grayscale?
Further, if I select a B&W book, does that still allow for a color cover?
And what does EPUB do with pictures? Are they simply eliminated? Should I just drop most of the pictures and do plain drab text?

Yes, if you pick B & W pages it will print B & W regardless of any colour on the pages and you will be charged for B & W.

Covers are colour by default even if you put B & W images on them.

No they are not eliminated. If you set up, say, a docx file correctly for conversion to ePub it should be OK. Ken is the man to ask about that sort of stuff.
