Good formatting as a Word file on my computer but bad formatting in the preview

Hello,

I have a problem concerning the interior formatting of my book.

When I first published it on Lulu, I didn't use an ISBN (I don't know if it's linked) and there was nothing wrong with it. Here is a link to that first book:

http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/beaming-through-it-all/15633360

I also used a Lulu cover.

But then I decided to have an ISBN and to make my own cover. And for some reason the formatting is wrong now. The file I have on my computer is alright (it is in Word format) and when I add it it still is alright : I have downloaded it and the formatting is good.

But when I get to the step "Making your print-ready file" and click on "Download and Review Your Print-Ready Interior" the formatting is not good anymore : there are spaces between the paragraphs and the words "chapter 1" appear at the foot of page 4 instead of on page 5... I don't understand why it does that. Here's a link of the last version of my book:

http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/beaming-through-it-all/15712777

You can see in the preview that the formatting is not good anymore.

Any idea why I can't get it right? It is really annoying because I'd really like to buy it and I don't want to buy a book with a bad interior formatting...

Thank you for helping!

You need to create new sections and use page breaks where appropriate. Do not add spaces manually.

Also, create a PDF before you upload and preview exactly what your book will look like. The PDF does not change when it is uploaded to Lulu.

Thank you Maggie!

I just don't know how to create a PDF? I tried to download Lulu's Adobe Job Options but I can't open it.

At the very worst I'll try to find another way to create one but maybe you know why I can't open it?

Actually I found a site to create PDF online and it actually worked!!! Well the writing is not as good as the one I had in my Word version but at least the formatting is okay.

So thank you so much!!

If I read this right, then the only change that you have made to the pages within your book that worked ok previously, is to add the ISBN number to your copyright page? If so then it should have made no difference to how your book converted. (Your new version of your book is not at the link to look at).

Maggie is right about what she says, but if all you have done is what you have said, and that file worked ok beforehand, then something is wrong with the convertor to create such a mess.

But do check over your file for what Maggie suggested before you moan at Lulu :-)

Re: Good formatting as a Word file on my computer but bad formatting in the preview

If you are using recent versions of Word it has a 1-click save as PDF built in. But people are now also saying some of their old PDFs no longer work in the convertors! Lulu have been messing around with that tool.

I can help with any PDF problems including producing a Lulu verified PDF.

Re: Good formatting as a Word file on my computer but bad formatting in the preview

Well I don't know what went wrong but I created a PDF file as Maggie said and now everything's good.

Since it didn't work I had made a new project for my book, and now that I managed to revise one I deleted the other, that may be why the link doesn't work. So the link that works is this one now:

http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/beaming-through-it-all/15713242

But as I said there's no problem anymore, I just uploaded a PDF file instead of a Word file and it worked! :smileyhappy:
