Norm, good for you for defending yourself here. Keep on keeping on.

However, let me say that Julie Dawson is a valued commodity (sorry Julie for calling you such). She has proved herself as a hard worker in the industry and knows her stuff.
If you find her abrasive, ain't that the business? You gotta get through it.

I would suggest that your best tactic is to address Julie is the most formal and respectful manner. Ignore any perceived slights.

For me, I see her as doing the rest of us a service.

Ms Dawson may be a "valued commodity" or whatever. I just don't appreciate how she was a troll and hijacked a completely innocent thread. Look, here we are talking about her and how wonderful she is and how someone else programmed computers in COBOL and did web development with Al Gore on punch cards when I was in diapers and before the Web was even invented -- and not about the thread's subject.

The suggestion was simple enough. It's either yes or no. Kind of like when someone at work says, "Anyone want to go to lunch?"

Yes or no?

Anyone want to exchange links?

Yes or no?

No need for pontifications.

Re: Self Publishers, Unite!

Can anyone help me?  I am SO new at all this - I have 4 books published on Lulu and feel as though I am "all alone" as far as help!  Is there a way to transfer my books to another publisher?  One who has more support?  Or is Lulu the best there is?  Teresa Salazar

Re: Self Publishers, Unite!

Teresa,

What kind of support are you looking for? One of the reasons sites like Lulu can afford to offer these servives so inexpensively is because it is based on a self-service model. There are people like me who offer design services, and who try to help authors as much as we can, and there are more expensive publishing packages from Lulu and others that will do more of the work for you.

But if you want someone to hold your hand through the publishing process or help you accomplish it, then it's up to you to acquire help or do it yourself. That's sort of the point of self publishing, after all. You'tr taking on the burden of the kinds of things that a traditional publisher would handle for you.

Perhaps you can get those talents to work on why its so bloody hard to get my epub uploaded to lulu then ? I mean its not rocket science presumably its just text !!! Why is this so hard.

EBates,
You are posting to an old thread (last post was in 2010), but I am happy to run your ePub through our validation report if you would like. Email the ePub to me at npopio@lulu.com and I will send you the report results.
