Marketing...What Is There Left To Do?????

Hello Everyone,

I believe I may have done everything to market my book, but I think there can be more to do.  I have a FB page, website, Twitter acct, blog, I've contacted newspapers, I've been in one of them and a new story will feature me this month in our Daily Herald, I've contacted a media personality and sent her a copy of my book (because she comes from the neighborhood the book was written about). I'm on Amazon Kindle (thanks to Ken Anderson) so what else can I do, what have all of you done to further increase sales of your book.  This is my first book, so yes I am new to all of this.

I'd like to point you in the direction of http://www.foodontheblog.co.uk (which is part of a network of blogs managed by a good friend)

Submitting guest blogs to this, and other food blogs, is a great way to get your sales message out there.

Well - you are talking about marketing here on Lulu and you don't give a link  to your book on Lulu... :smileyhappy:

Having gone to your website and then back to Lulu my first reaction is the book is way too expensive for 54 pages and I thik that is the major inhibitor to sales.

You have taken the full colour option and yet in the only two recipes you give in your preview there is no colour, no photographs of the finished dish - it's just B&W text.

You have nice colour pix in the front pages but they're not essential to the book. If colour is important then give some examples in your preview.

If not, go B&W interior and you'll  cut your costs and thus the books retail price by more than a half.

Lets look at the title - Brooklyn Italian - Memoirs of Recipes of Days Gone By.

It is not clear if this is a book of recipes that I can cook, or a book of reminences about dishes you have eaten, or recipes of old foods of historical interest but not what you'd want to eat today (like the boooks of recipes of the middle ages.) Suggest you make it clear what the book is..

e.g.

Brooklyn Italian

- 50  Recipes that made New York Great

- 50  Mouthwatering American Italian Recipes

- 50  Mouthwatering Italian Recipes with a Brooklyn Twist


You only give ounce and 'cup' measurements so you rule out anyone from Europe or anywhere else that uses metric measurements from buying the book. You could easily give both measurements.

Then, how important is the Brooklyn part? I'm not from Brooklyn so why should I buy these recipes, why should I not get an original Italian recipe book?

That's just off the top of my head. There are so many recipe books -- you have to consider what you can do to make your one worth buying.

Also, I think you could improve the formatting, eg. indent paragraphs, use smart/curly quotes, be consistent with capitalisation in the recipes,p and surely a 'bullion' cube should be   bouillon

Hi Monique,

Congrats on your work!  I sold 30 paperbacks so far and I believe 1 digital version.  I think it takes time.  Since I am new to this I am trying to learn and get involved in as much marketing and promoting my book as I can.  I don't know if I missed something, I am sure I have. With FB and a website and Twitter you do get a lot of feedback but as far as people buying your book you can only promote it the best you can and then the rest is up to the public.  I am currently working on my second book so I hope by having a few books out there it gets better.  I hope this helped you somewhat. :smileyhappy:

hi Patrice, you have been very busy. i am still at the level of sending to close friends and family. Hardly a money making exercise at the moment ha ha, so I am checking out what you have covered with the thought of doing the same so thanks for the list

i get your point Peter. i did not put the name of my book up their either, also sophia comes up as a tag somehow and my name is josephine. what a learning curve this all is !!!

so my book is FROM LINDOS WITH LOVE. lindos is a greek village and a group of people go their for a craft holiday and their lives change from the experience. it is under ' travel ', but it is also self help, romance, and involves older people so how do i get it into those other catagories??

Presumably sophia123 was the ID you chose when first logging onto this forum.

AFAIK your book can be in only one category.

Your book looks good, great cover. But I am concerned about the references to the 4 song lyrics on the title pages as there are no copyright permissions shown. Do you have copyright clearance to use thee lyrics?
