I took a deep breath, gathered up a couple copies of my brand new book and paid Connie a visit. Who's Connie, you ask? She's my sweet friend who bought our local book store about a year ago, and it's beautiful. Not only did she love my book, but she thought it was the perfect thing to add to her outdoor Mother's Day table display! She also wants to schedule for my very first real, live book signing event at her store!
The only not-so-happy fact is that she takes 40% of my profit from books sold in her store, which sadly seems to be the going rate these days. It's all right, though. I'm just breaking in with this and trying to build my base, my platform and gain confidence.
Doesn't it look great? It's the one to the far left on the little stand called "Walking in Son-Light" with the pink rose on the cover ![]()

That's VERY exciting news... a huge coup. They are these little steps that lead you on to greatness (or at least, a lot more fun and sales.)
Book signings are quite fun, but you may want to ensure success... take this opportunity to let your friends know that you're doing a book signing too, and tell them that they don't necessarily need to come buy your book, but it would be wonderful if they came and showed support (and maybe bought OTHER books while they were at this bookstore, if they're not interested in your genre.) This sneaky marketing will make Connie happy she invited you for the signing, and will likely invite you back for the next one.
When I did my signing (many years ago), I also brought a little computer with me and had a little talk/demonstration prior to the signing, and that got a big crowd of people from the store to come over too... you may want to talk to Connie (if it makes sense) to have a little talk prior to the signing. Any gimmicks to draw a crowd (in a polite way.) :-)
ttfn,
Eduard

That really is a fantastic achievement and well done for receiving the recognition of producing such a good book. I really hope this provides you with a platform for further recognition. Good luck with your book signing.
