Re: Another listing site

I just wanted to say that I had several titles with ebookad (mentioned above) a couple of years ago which sold well... but I never got paid. After many e-mails and faxes to them with no reply and after some searching around I discovered that many other folk had the same problem and last year I read that the company had gone under.

Does anyone know if it's back under new management, or has anyone had experience of the site? It used to do very well in all respects apart from sending authors their money as far as I can see.

Re: Another listing site

you might want to look at freeyourimagination.com too. it's new, but you can make some money if your work is actually any good and you can practice trying to market it with blurbs, synopses, etc.

Really great new listing site! http://www.bowindex.com lists URL in categories/sub-categories, has synop, reviews, and direct links to your content page here at Lulu. this could turn into the best site yet. The owner is as good at promoting as anyone.

Have a look at the stats. 437 links in 42 categories, with 32337 clicks and 7 comments by 363 members.

That's an online bookstore with 437 books in it.

The books listed aren't Google visible - I checked. The only way someone's going to find your book there is if they approach it as online bookshop and search or browse its categories. Who's going to do that a) when no-one knows about this bookshop b) there are virtually no products there so every search you do is fruitless?

Take out the author's clicks from that 32,337 count and you're probably not left with too many visitors. Why would you be? It's not on my radar as a book-store. Why it would be on anyone else's. Why would anyone go there above Amazon?

Message on the above link:

(May 23, 2008) To our current Live Search Books Publisher Program Partners: As we hope you have already learned from us directly, we are ending the Live Search Books Publisher Program, including our digitization initiatives, and closing the Live Search Books site. We recognize that this is disappointing news to you, our partners, and to the users of the Live Search Books service. Ending these programs is the result of a strategic decision on our part to focus our investments in new vertical search areas where we believe we can more effectively differentiate Live Search.

Given the evolution of the web and our strategy, we believe the next generation of search is about the development of an underlying, sustainable business model for the search engine, consumer, and content partner. For example, this past Wednesday, we announced our strategy to focus on verticals with high commercial intent, such as travel, and offer users cash back on their purchases from our advertisers. With Live Search Books and Live Search Academic, we digitized 750,000 books and indexed 80 million journal articles. Based on our experience, we foresee that the best way for a search engine to make book content available will be by crawling content repositories created by book publishers and libraries. With our investments, the technology to create these repositories is now available at lower costs for those with the commercial interest or public mandate to digitize book content. We will continue to track the evolution of the industry and evaluate future opportunities.

As we wind down Live Search Books we will be reaching out to you in partnership with Ingram Digital Group with information on new marketing and sales opportunities designed to help you derive ongoing benefits from your participation in the Live Search Books Publisher Program. As part of this initiative, we intend to make the scan files we created from your print book submissions available to you for free. Please check back here next week for more information on these offers.

Re: Another listing site

many of those things are fine, if people know that they exist. Companies like e-bay and amazon do not advertise on TV for no reason ...
