PDF distribution, ISBNs

Morning all. I have a few questions about various aspects of ISBNs and distribution:

1. Can I sell my A5 paperback in both print and pdf versions through ExtendedREACH i.e. not just available through Lulu.com (I presume not), and also as an ebook?

2. If it’s not possible to sell both a PDF and print version through ExtendedREACH, will Lulu allow me to sell a separate and slightly different PDF version of my paperback (with colour photos, changes to fonts and positions of various things) through Amazon i.e. without my Lulu ISBN, but without withdrawing my ebook and paperback from Lulu?

3. My ebook is currently DRM. If I want to change that to an unrestricted access EPUB, do I have to retire that project and start a new one? If I have to start a new project, can I reuse the ISBN or must I get a new ISBN?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: PDF distribution, ISBNs

1. You can have a print copy with ExtendedReach.

2. A PDF is now a separate eBook project. You can use the same file. There are no distribution plans for an eBook PDF.

3. Retire the DRM copy and make a new DRM Free copy.

Re: PDF distribution, ISBNs

Thank you for your help Ken. I have just 3 related Q's:

1. If I do make a new ebook project and generate and submit a PDF, is it OK to insert colour photos into my paperback document (currently B&W photos due to printing costs) and convert that to PDF rather than my ebook document? My paperback document allows a wider range of fonts and styles that are acceptable to PDF conversion.

2. Does the PDF ebook replace my current EPUB ebook or is it considered a separate publication?

3. If the PDF ebook was generated from the paperback version (but included colour photos) that raises the problem of which ISBN to use - print or EPUB ebook. Or do I not use one for a separate PDF ebook Project?

1. Yes.

2. No. eBook PDF and eBook EPUB are different projects.

3. You do not need an ISBN for an eBook PDF. Remove from the text or say the ISBN refers to a printed book.

Re: PDF distribution, ISBNs

Hello everyone,

Could you confirm please that if my paperback is currently distributed through Global Reach, there is no problem with creating a separate ebook from the same material (minus the Lulu ISBN) and distributing it myself to various vendors?

I ask, since the TOS for Global Reach contains the following line:

5. agree not to make any duplicate publication available through other retailers. You will not submit the publication to distributors other than Lulu.com while lulu distribution is active.

In other words, does this refer only to redistribution of the print version, and not ebook versions created subsequently?

Thanks!
