The Manage Distribution page allows you to control your eBook's retail channels.

Go to your Project List and click on the 'Manage" link in the Distribution column for the title you wish to adjust. An eBook project will not display the manage button unless you:

  • Select “Sell Everywhere” in the first step of the eBook Publishing Wizard
  • Apply an ISBN to the project
  • Supply an EPUB formatted file

There are two versions of the "Manage" Icon:

  • manage-action.png - This icon informs you that there is an issue that needs to be addressed for your eBook to be submitted to retail channels.

  • manage-distro.png - This icon informs you that there are retail channel options available.

Selecting either of the manage icons above will take you to the Manage Distribution page for that title. On this page you will see all of the possible retail channels for your eBook. Each channel will have a status icon next to it. These icons show the status of your eBook in each retail channel.

  • Not Listed - Appears when an eBook is opted-out, not submitted, or removed from a retail channel. Click the "Submit" button to add your eBook to a new retail channel. Once you click Submit, the button will slide to the right and change to partially green and "Pending". Submitting an eBook to a channel will send it to our Quality Assurance team to review before being listed in that channel.

  • Pending (Green and Gray) - Appears when your eBook title is under review by our QA team. Once this step is complete, you are on your way to being listed. To cancel your request to be listed, click "Cancel" below the icon

  • Pending (Orange) - Appears when an eBook has been rejected and requires action by you. There will be a red box with a list of issues that need to be addressed. If you do not revise and fix your eBook's issues, it will remain in the orange pending status and not be submitted to retail channels. To cancel your request to be listed, click "Cancel" below the icon

    Common rejection reasons:
      • Your eBook has been rejected for formatting issues. The images and/or text in your file are blurry or not formatted properly.
      • Your eBook (cover, description or content) cannot contain links to other sites, products or upsell of other items. Conversion software links are not acceptable.
      • Your eBook has been rejected for missing, incomplete, unreadable, or inaccurate Table of Contents. The NCX must be accurate.
      • Your image does not fill the entire area. This makes your cover contain white space in the unfilled portion. You may need to stretch your cover to fit the marketing image area.
      • Your eBook has been rejected for improper capitalization. The first letter of all words in the title, subtitle and author name should be capitalized, except for the following words: a, an, and, for, from, of, or, the, to. The first and last word of the title and subtitle should always be capitalized.
      • The description of your title is too short/vague.
      • Technical review team notes: In accordance with the rejection reason, the lulu QA team will typically provide you additional instructions or notes to help clarify or provide direction at the bottom of the rejection dialog.

Lulu has a provided a set of eBook Distribution Guidelines that if followed will speed your eBook through the Lulu QA process.

  • Listed - Appears when the Lulu QA team submits your eBook to that retail channel. The status changes to listed as soon as the title is sent to the channel. Click "Remove" to remove your eBook from a retail channel.

  • Removing - Appears when you "Cancel" or "Remove" an eBook from a retail channel. Once a channel removes your eBook from their store, the eBook will become "Not Listed"

  • Ineligible - Appears when an eBook contains features that a retail channel does not support or allow. There will be a yellow box with a list of issues that need to be addressed. If you would like your eBook to be listed with this channel, revise your eBook and resubmit your source file. Some channels don't accept free content or multi-media content in their eBooks.

Revising

If an eBook is revised or has just been revised, the Manage Distribution page will display the status of that version. The previous version will remain in the retail channels until it is replaced by the revision or you remove it from a channel.
