shipping cost at lulu is quite expensive. i want to order 25 small paper back books but the shipping almost $45!! yikes!
i ordered 100 4-pack DVDs and the shipping was only $32 from another carrier. is there anyone else concerned about this?

goodlifefitness,
Where are you shipping the books to?

That does sound dear when some places deliver for free or a flat-rate cost, but those places are huge and send out tons of things a day and can spread out and add the costs to the products' prices with no one noticing!
Lulu on the other hand is not really that big and actually do not make the product so in all possibility we are paying normal post rates from some small printing company/s somewhere.
But then again, you may live in Mongolia ...

Oh my gosh I know!
I bought 15 92-page softcover books. The shipping (Mail!) was $21. That's almost $2 a book. It is really expensive since they are probably using media mail which is costing them only $5-10.
For 30 books, the shipping was $40. What is up with this?! It makes buying the books in bulk really unreasonable.

Where are you?
And what type of book are you publishing?

If we accept that no-one should really be contemplating buying their own books for resale, then the postage costs become an issue for prospective purchasers rather than for authors.
That is why I walways direct prospective purchasers of my own Lulu books to the appropriate pages on Amazon. They can buy them there and get free shipping.
When I do buy my own stuff direct from Lulu (e.g. calendars of my photographs for giving as gifte to friends at Christmas and New Year), I just have to accept that the postage costs are part of the overall cost. But they are not any higher than if I used any other online service to produce them and the quality makes them worth the money.
