barcodes on ebooks?

I'm in the middle of the publishing process of my ebook and I need to know if I should insert the barcode in the book somewhere or if it goes on the front cover or what?

I want my book distributed everywhere I can get it distributed so I need the barcode on the book somewhere, right?

Thanks,

Lee

Re: barcodes on ebooks?

I am not at all sure! Some say yes and some say no. I am not sure what a barcode is for within an e-book! What are they going to scan?! All I can think of is that they are used in a list of e-books at the side of the name of the book so it can be scanned for reorder. But surely such lists are all on PCs now, so no need to scan them! You just click []
As you can see from this any many other sites >>> http://publishingperspectives.com/2010/03/e-book-isbn-mess-needs-sorting-out-say-uk-publishers/ many are wondering about e-book ISBNs and their use and point!
I would say, if you can get one, stick the code on the copyright page, then it's there if it's needed! It will be listed as having one then.

Re: barcodes on ebooks?

BTW. Lulu only created a few types of e-book, so they will not be readable on all readers, anyway.

Re: barcodes on ebooks?

There is nothing on Lulu Connect that I could find indicating the answer to this.  I only wonder because I was issued a barcode during the publishing process but don't know if its supposed to go into the book or not.  I'd like to know for sure what the "correct" procedure is (especially since I don't really have any room left on the copyright page).  I suppose I will do that should I not get a definite answer from someone who knows for sure, but I don't want to do that unless its necessary.

Thanks for your reply!

Re: barcodes on ebooks?

Just treat it as if it is a 'real' book, just as the Wizard does. Even put the barcode on the 'back page' if you wish, because e-books do not have a seperate wizard for covers do they? So it will not autoadd it. As you can see, from that site, many are arguing about it and have no real clue! So just stick it in, what harm can it do?

Re: barcodes on ebooks?

Okay, I have inserted the barcode as the last page of the book.  If anyone knows of anywhere else I should insert it, please let me know.

Thank you so much for your help.  I appreciate the advice. :-)

"If anyone knows of anywhere else I should insert it, please let me know."

That's such a leading question ... :-)

OK, as per a 'normal' book, just the code on the Copyright page and the entire barcode on the outer back cover, but I have no idea what you would class as an outer back cover on an e-book! Just stick it on the last 'page'.

Re: barcodes on ebooks?

lol :-)

Yes, I have the isbn on the copyright page and the full barcode on the last page.  Is that what you meant?
