Published at retailers

Hi

I just had my book published and now it is listed. I think a couple of days ago not longer than a week. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions I have. First of all my book is at about seven or more book shops. Can I ask is this a good thing or is it something that is only listed if the book of is of a certain quality. In other words do a large number of book retailers have hold the book if you buy the distribution package or is this a good sign that so many are holding it because it is optional whether they list your book dependent on the quality?

Second question. How do you know when you have sales. I have not seen sales on Lulu. But it is saying on one site there is one used copy of my book that is sellable. So there must have been a sale to get a used book for sale. Why has this not shown on my account yet. Is there a back log? If so how long?

Thank you.

[ Edited ]

I just had my book published and now it is listed.

So far so good.

I think a couple of days ago not longer than a week.

You mean when it was listed?

I was wondering if you could answer a few questions I have.

First of all my book is at about seven or more book shops.

What is there to ask about then?!! Many will now be asking you how!

Can I ask is this a good thing

Why would you need to ask that? I don't understand.

or is it something that is only listed if the book of is of a certain quality.

Sorry, you have lost me. What do you mean? If you mean why are they now in bookshops, then that is not 'listed', that is up for sale in retail outlets, so they must assume they are good enough, the question is >> how did those shops find them? How did they know about them to order them?

In other words do a large number of book retailers have hold the book if you buy the distribution package or is this a good sign that so many are holding it because it is optional whether they list your book dependent on the quality?

No. The dist packs do not put the books in to shops (apart from on Amazon) the shops choose to stock them because some how they fond out they exist, so looked on the lists, and ordered them, liked them, and stocked them.  The main questions are the ones I asked above. It's what most writers strive for.

Second question. How do you know when you have sales.

They show up on your My Lulu.

I have not seen sales on Lulu.

It can take a while before they show up.

But it is saying on one site there is one used copy of my book that is sellable.

Are you only talking about Amazon then? Take no notice of pages that say they have used copies, they are scams.

So there must have been a sale to get a used book for sale.

No, they get an order, then they order one, it's a scam.

Why has this not shown on my account yet. Is there a back log? If so how long?

It can be many many weeks. It depends on the time of month a sale is made, and at many places's accounting systems.

Re: Published at retailers

Thank you for your reply.

To respond to your questions. If I can?

I wrote a book on the Euro Crisis, which is very topical. There are not many books with the title Euro Crisis so I guess it was attractive. It is as most book shops some I have not even heard of. If you are interested to see which then you can google it. It is called Euro Crisis Aggregate Demand control is European single currency weakness. By Peter James Rhys Morgan.

So I think to answer your question. It is a very commercial book that is current and there is not much competition. So there are some strong benefits to it.

Can I also ask. It has not shown up on the google book search but it is google enabled. Is this something that takes longer than listing? Or is it not showing up for other reasons?

Re: Published at retailers

Even so, how did those shops, and the sites the book is mentiond on, know about the book?

I do not think you need to worry about it being on Google Book Search or not.

Re: Published at retailers

I don't know but it is everywhere. It is at Barnes and Noble, Borders, Waterstones, Foyles, Booktopia, Bookplus, Akemdemia to name but a few. It is is at different countries too. Australia, Russia, France, Belgium, Germany and who knows where else.

If you do a google search on it it shows different listing until page 11 perhaps longer. It got boared of looking.

Is this impressive?

Re: Published at retailers

I listed it on my blog. I can't list it on my website because the web designer has the software to do it and it is difficult to get him to do it because he is busy.

My blog is morganisteconomics.blogspot.co.uk

It is in the Euro Crisis page.

Re: Published at retailers

Yeah I know that is why I started my blog.

I looked on waterstones and it is saying my book is out of stock is this because it is print on demand or they have sold out?

Also there is a note there saying there is another seller who is selling it at a five pound premium.

The link is below.

http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/products/peter+james+rhys+morgan/euro+crisis+aggregate+dem...

Is this a good sign?

Re: Published at retailers

Hardly possible for a POD book to be out of stock, but as soon as someone orders one, it will be printed and back in stock again until it's shipped. LOL.

a note? A note where? Hrmm, follow that link and it comes to >> http://www.waterstonesmarketplace.com/stores/00000000?cp_sp=product*listing*alibris

Perhaps you can mail them and ask why they are sellling at that price? One has to wonder if they belong to waterstones also ...
