As Ken says, it will remain there for ever, but listed as Out Of Print. Perhaps it's there so people can see that it's out of print when looking for it!
A bit odd, then, if the book turns up again even if edited! It will still have the same title and writer etc.
It's a shame we have no control over the pages our books are on at Amazon, but we have little control over any retail outlet! But at least if a book is out of print it will not be on a bricks & morter store's shelves.
