How to convert from hardback to paperback?

Hi my book is currently a hardback, but I would like to make it a paperback.  How can I do this?

In my case, I simply start a new project, select paperback binding, get a new ISBN (if you are distributing through other than Lulu) and then upload the text with the ISBN for the paperback and adapt my cover design to the more limited format for paperback.  If there is some way to firectly convert to paperback without starting a new project, I am unaware of it. 

The principal drawback to this method is that if you need to revise the book, you ahve to do everything twice (once for hardcover, once for paperback).  I've had to come up with a file naming convention that allows me to keep the versions of my books up-to-date (essentional title_covertype_date.doc).
