How do i get an age rating on my book?

Hi everyone

Does anyone have any idea on the process need to set an age rating for my book- I have written a graphic novel pretty typical of the action/fantasy genre as in it does need to carry the pretty much standard teen+ rating. I wanted to look into this soon rather than later to avoid any troubles later! Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hmm..not sure it's possible here at Lulu. However, you can include it in the description.

Maggie is correct; Lulu does not offer an official way to get an age rating on your book. However, you can put that information in your description and even add it to the book cover as well. With self-publishing you are free to design and rate your book how you see fit for your target audience. If you feel your book warrants an age waring, by all means feel free to add one. Is it not up to the reader or even the reader's parents who it is suitable for? Not everyone is the same. But often the cover is a clue. I tried a search on line but came up with little of any use because it's hard to work out what words to use.

Thanks so much for your insight, your advice was very helpful. I will place an age rating on my book as now i understand i am free to do so    I am certain that this is the best thing to do because i respect that these ratings need to be in place especially for those who maybe dont understand what is typical or expected of the action/fantasy graphic novels and if buying it for younger children/family/friends i feel a rating is appropriate to give them an understanding of whom the target audience is.

I often read what are classed as 'childrens' ' books (often actually meaning under 16s) and find very often the only difference between those and 'adult' ones, is there's no swearing and no sex, but very often sex is hinted at!
At times it all depends if you wish to protect your kids against 'adult' subjects (whatever they are) or to educate them in a nice manner. And to be honest, what kids say to each other would shock most parents who forget what they were like as kids.
