Font style and size

Is there a preferred text font style and size that should be used for publishing a book with Lulu?

Re: Font style and size

44jeepnut,

I found this while browsing the Learn section of Lulu's new platform in Tips For Formatting Documents:

If your uploaded source document contains unusual fonts, your book won't look like you expected. Use fonts that are readily available (almost anything provided by default in Microsoft® Windows® works). If you have unique or hard-to-find fonts in your document, provide a print-ready PDF of your work instead, making sure it meets our requirements — in particular, that the PDF includes the embedded fonts. For more information about PDFs and fonts, see "How do I embed fonts in a PDF?"

Hope this helps!

Re: Font style and size

Read Ken's link first, 44jeepnut.  It has the exact info. about which you were inquiring, including input from a Lulu Administrator.

Hmmph!  I should've asked Ken first! :smileywink:

You might also want to consider your target audience when choosing a font and size.

For example if your audience consists of the elderly, then a larger, clear font would be good. If you are making a book for artists on the other hand, choose something more artistic for headings and headers.

Re: Font style and size

File (Office Button), Print, and choose your printer. You may have several printers installed such as Adobe, or Cute PDF or even a paper printer. Then choose whether you want to print in colour or black and white, and the size you would like your PDF to be.

Good luck!

f you are planning to upload your own PDF, you may use any fonts you like, but you must embed the fonts in the PDF before uploading to Lulu. If you are planning to have Lulu convert your document to a PDF, be sure to choose fonts from the following list. If you use a font that is not on this list, the Lulu converter will substitute one of these fonts in its place. This may adversely affect your formatting.

  • Arial
  • Book Antiqua
  • Bookman Old Style
  • Century
  • Courier
  • Garamond
  • Palatino
  • Tahoma
  • Times New Roman
  • Verdana
  • Symbols

Follow these general guidelines when choosing your fonts:

  • Serif fonts are best for printed documents. Use serif fonts like Garamond, Times New Roman and Palatino for blocks of body text.
  • Sans serif fonts are best for online documents and for display text. Use sans serif fonts like Arial and Verdana if you intend your book to be viewed online.
  • Use bold sans serif fonts for title text or headings.
