This seems very strange, given that Smashwords has only recently made further announcements about their relationship with Apple - and that they appear to be the 6th largest publisher on the iBookstore.
I'd still love to have my Lulu versions up, since I have more control over formatting that way, but communication on the whole issue is so utterly confused and inconsistent that I'm at a loss at this point where to even start (beyond re-clicking submissions on books I'd been told were still under consideration but which were not even listed as submitted when I check back. Groan.)

I've actually started the process with Smashwords, and so far so good.
I chose LULU initially because it seems to give you control of your layout in that you upload an epub file of your own making. However, after going through the Smashwords process it isn't too hard at all, if you keep your wits about you, and don't want to get too fancy with the layout. But after all, the advantage of an ebook to the reader is to let them control the layout, so it makes sense to keep it simple anyway.
My book is now available through Smashwords, and I'm now now waiting to see if it gets up on the iBookstore and other places fed by Smashwords.
Weirdly, I have just noticed that LULU says my book is now available on the ibookstore. Well it ain't.
So, dear Ken Anderson, do you have any facts yet to back up your 'Word on the Street"?

This issue is still a problem - the frustration here is twofold -
1) That Lulu status shows "listed" and includes a link that says "available on the iBookstore" when it isn't
2) Nobody at either Lulu or Apple seems to be able to explain what is going on, where in the queue my file might be, or how long it might take to process. Not even a ballpark of "ten working days"
It took only a couple of days for Lulu to to show my book as "Listed" on the ibookstore (Two weeks ago) and it took longer for the Barnes and Noble Nook to process, but when it shows as listed there, it was actually available.
What is going on?

Apple has been experiencing some delay in listing titles on the iBookstore; large volumes of titles are submitted every day and this can take some time to process. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have more questions about your specific book and distribution, the best thing you can do is continue to work with Lulu Support via live chat or email.
