Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

I put a calendar up for sale and one of my customers told me that they were displeased they had to sign up to buy it. And then the pay site was apparently a pain too. Why is this? Is there anyway to make it so they can pay via PayPal? Just crious.

Re: Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

They have to sign up for every site where they have to pay--even at Amazon. However, Paypal is a good suggestion. Post it under Suggest in forums.

Re: Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

Many sites that do not even sell anything ask you to 'sign up', why does this come as a suprise to people? Paypal for an example of one tthat does sell something. Apparently you don't have a problem with 'signing up' there to 'buy' a service.
I am not sure why paying via paypal should be any less troublesome than by 'card' though.
Just one customer moaning about what is normal practice should just be ignored. I don't even know many of mine for them to moan at me!

Re: Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

Hi Guys, I don't use anything else but PayPal to purchase my books on Lulu or anything on line.on line. I have one credit card not linked to my main Bank but linked to PayPal and use that. I think the security of signing in before purchases is good, but i don't think one should have sign in and/or register just to look around. That's like signing a visitors book when one walks into a shop!

Re: Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

ShutUpAndSmile,
2 or 3 times a year someone comes along with a similar statement to your based on an untruth.

Anyone wishing to buy a buy a book from Lulu and do nothing more than that has only to provide the very basic account detail very much the same as buying from any on line shop.

What is difficult in providing an account name and password.

Obviously a delivery address must be provided but that is not associated with account name.
At the payment stage those already with a PayPal account can just enter their PayPal account name and password.

What can be simpler.

Before criticising or moaning people should check the true state of play for themselves.

So yet we have another thread with many wasted comments and verbiage.

Re: Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

I run a store on my site, and sell my lulu books through there as well, that way customers don't need to sign up.

They add items to a cart, the cart gets passed to paypal and they login there. No details taken from my site. Paypal then provides a shipping address and all the rest; very simple and the customer never has to give me any detail.

I agree with the secure signing when 'Go To Cart' is requested
when I 'Go to cart" and 'place order' i get a choice of HOW I am to pay, and when I click on PAY pal the page is 'linked' to a secure page with PayPal.
If the author purchases books and the 'customer' pays the author, then the delivery address can be changed at checkout to that of the customer.

Spinal,
Would you like to explain " the cart gets passed to paypal ".
Do you use an API?

Re: Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

Soryr for the late reply, it's been a while!

I was going to use paypall's api... but instead opted to be even lazier and used a pre-made module for wordpress (when I'm feeling lazy I use wordpress to set sites up). It deals with making a cart, then when a user clicks on the paypal link it passes the contents of the cart to paypal.

Have a look: www.SaharanPress.com
it's not the prettiest, but it's fast and does the job... 200-odd sales on my site, 1 on lulu and 1 on ebay... Within about a month of publishing, with no advertising so far except for google adwords.

Re: Customers have to sign up? PayPal?

I'm confused - your original message was

I run a store on my site, and sell my lulu books through there as well, that way customers don't need to sign up.
They add items to a cart, the cart gets passed to paypal and they login there. No details taken from my site. Paypal then provides a shipping address and all the rest; very simple and the customer never has to give me any detail.

Looking at your site you have a Lulu Buy Button which links to your book on Lulu - in that case the use still has to complete the Lulu buy process and provide their details.

You own cart uses a standard Paypal buy button where I guess that you service the order and the customer provides the shipping address to Pyapla which they give to you. So you still have some details.

Your original message suggested that the Paypal input would trigger a purchase on Lulu - that is obviously not the case.
