Brand New to Lulu

If you were starting from scratch and never published on Lulu before, what would you have done differently right from the get go when you started writing your book in order to get it published on Lulu?  Please be as detailed as possible.  Thanks!

Re: Brand New to Lulu

Not really about writing the book, but I wish I had chosen from the start to design my own book covers instead of using the templates. Mine aren't great, but they look better than the templates do and they don't take too long to design. I actually enjoy the artistic side of doing them.

Re: Brand New to Lulu

I wouldn't add all the "fancy fonts" I usually do (outside of published works), like Edwardian Script ITC and the like, since the ePUB format doesn't support them.

(Suspenseful, mind-boggling stories, artful prose, and photography are available on my newly revamped page.
Free eBook editions are now available! As well as video promotions with music for your listening pleasure.)

Re: Brand New to Lulu

1) set the paper size on your word processor to the book paper size you will use for your book.

2) if you want distribution check first that that paper size is acceptable for distribution.

Everyone is right but Peter is spot on. Prepare before you start. If you get off on the wrong foot it can be tough. If not sure, there is always someone here on the forum who will be more than glad to help.

Re: Brand New to Lulu

I agree with Peter May, about making sure the page sizes match, but it's hard because you've never done it before, and you have no idea how it'll look until you see the "Print-Ready".  One thing, I would also add to that is. . .When you do get to download & preview your "Print-Ready". . .Preview the entire thing!!!  Don't think just because things line up right in the beginning, that it's automatically lined up through the rest of the book.  It took me 5 revisions, and major headaches & frustrations to get it right!  Good luck!!

Listen to Kevin and make him your Friend. Then go to this area and spend a day reading it http://connect.lulu.com/t5/Discuss/tkbc-p/forums_kb Then remember where it is for when you have difficulty.
