Re: Cover color changes

I really really wish that the cover thing could be sorted. I would like to use Lulu for all of my books but having done many proofs to check cover colour (they had this odd red hue) and once I had got it sorted I ordered 50 and they came in a lots darker with the red hue again. I did take it up with Lulu but got nowhere.

I have read that there is a difference from us seeing/printing our picture in RGB (red  green blue) and the printers using CMYK colour format. Is there anyway that they could set something up that we could change our jpegs into that colour format? This would get round the problem I'm sure. A slight difference between printers would then be negligible.

(On here people kept saying it didn't matter, people could not compare it to another but it looked really odd as there was animals on the front it looked very odd, not natural at all.)

This is the only glitch in the system, the Lulu service is so easy to use.

Re: Cover color changes

There is no problem if you start with WYSIWYG on your PC. Do a test print on your own printer and match the monitor settings to the print.
There is also no need to worry about RGB, CMYK or anything, especially with Jpgs (create as jpg). They are "millions" of colours (and can be set as such (Many printing machines use CMYKBpB now anyway, because black is also a colour do not forget)).
Use 300dpi images, but set slightly lighter than you want them because Lulu's printers tend to print darker.
It does not matter too much, it depends on how far out the covers are from the originals.
BTW, the cover Previews on our Spotlights are nothing to go off.

Re: Cover color changes

Blurb printing presicely the sametones and colours as on the monitor. Because they have there own ICC profile. This is a simple thing. May be, Lulu can create the same?

Re: Cover color changes

How is it possible for Blurb to do that? They have no way of knowing how your monitor is set up.
It is far from a simple thing. Major publishers and print houses spend £millions a year on getting it 'right'.

Re: Cover color changes

There are ICC profiles for embedding to image. If your monitor set correctly, print result will be precise. This way don't need any 'slightly darker' or 'slightly brighter than your monitor'. This is a standard for ALL professional printing.
I don't know, may be my print result will be precise, but I didn't got answer for my question: does Lulu preview reflects future cover print density.

Re: Cover color changes

There is no standed setting to what people see on their monitors while creating art.. so if your gamma is a bit 'high', then the printout will not look the same. Vice versa if your gamma is set too 'low'. I will not even go in to all the other graphics software settings.
Your question was answered ... just not in the way you wanted. (Which often seems the case in these forums).
I am not sure what your last sentence meant. Which Preview? (That you will be seeing on your monitor anyway ... )
