Just published a new book on Atheism

[ Edited ]

Just to show Im a team player, so to speak, I revised the book at the suggestion of complete strangers:smileyvery-happy:. I made the font smaller at the suggestion of a few while making the book a POCKET BOOK for easy transport. I already made my own copy with the larger font.

I'm new to the Lulu forums, so forgive me if this is in the wrong spot! I'm in the process of writing a second volume to this book series at the moment. On a humorous note, I was wondering if I was being too hard on the fundamentalists until I discovered a book consisting of short stories featuring atheists burning in hell... Sufficed to say, my concerns are no longer an issue. :smileyhappy:

Re: Just published a new book on Atheism

What font size did you use, looks very large with few words per line?

Text should be justified, looks amateurish with ragged right edges, as do the straight quotes (rather than 'curly') and the 'Written by' before the author's name on the title page makes it look like a school essay.

"In this book one will see simplistic chapters, in simple terms, defining..."

OK, I don't understand what that means - simplistic means over-simplified, so what over-simplified chapters in simple terms means I don't know -- but  then I don't understand what a memeplex is.

But I don't think the promise of simplicity is kept, otherwise why use words like inelectable rather than avoidable?

Hello Screenwriter,

Congratulations on your book.

Though I am not an atheist, I find the lack of belief in a God fascinating. I really think you would draw a greater readership with a juicier cover. Entice!

Re: Just published a new book on Atheism

Hi - good luck with your book.  The font does seem very big, so I wonder if this is a reflection of a lack of thought on your behalf, or is this deliberate?  How many pages would your book be if you used a normal sized font.

I say this as I too have written a popular science book covering perhaps the same topic from a very different perspective, i.e. looking at the relationship between spirituality, quantum physics and consciousness.  You may want to rethink book 2 if you wish to be taken seriously, like your hero Dawkins.

But yeah, have fun and it will be interesting to read any reviews of your book that others may do.

Peter May, it's large text as a personal choice. I'm legally blind and this, being my own work, was a perfect chance to accommodate my needs. As for the simplicity of the writing, or whatever you were dissecting..

The wording seems simplistic to me. :smileyhappy:

Self publishing is essentially to tailor to the needs of the writer, as such, a critique seems rather inane. But thank you for the suggestions. Actually there were none, were there? In that case, thanks for your need to nitpick, as the margin one will prove useful, indeed. :smileyhappy:

I hope you don't take offense. My writing can seem cynical, in fact that canvexplain the entry you quoted with confusion. Atheism is seen as ignorant.. And since the book is for atheists it's sort of poking fun.

Greetings, Simonrali. The font is deliberate. I don't see well. Being my own published work with nobody to control it, I was quite keen to tailor it to my own needs.

The book is sort of a tabletop reader for atheists. Curious, why would you suggest rethinking a second volume?

I'm not interested in a posting war, so please state your position however you wish, just try to remember that self publishing serves the writers needs not the readers.

Re: Just published a new book on Atheism

Am I missing something here?! There is no Preview.

However, I find the third line of your description offensive >> "How can we be good without god?" seeing as so many wars have been fought in the name of some god simply because some people worshipped the 'wrong' one. So it is easy to be 'good' with out any god - very easy, and very easy to be bad in the name of one ...

Kevin,

You might want to buy the book to understand fully what the author means.

I am guessing screenwriter means that the word and concept of "good" is a derivative of  "God."

God is the expression of, the embodiment of all that is good. But people will use and abuse any concept or feeling. How much harm has been done in the name of LOVE? Yet love is good. Same thing with God.

Re: Just published a new book on Atheism

Greetings, you arent missing anything. I revised the book at the suggestion, if it can be called that, of one of the posters above.

Don't know what to tell you about your taking offense. I agree with you, it is very easy to be good without god, which is the point. I cant say much about the rest of your statement seing as how I am atheist.
