Re: Out with the old (Storefront), in with the new (Author Spotlight)

Just set it to Private, then only you can see it. Or do what I do, I have a website that aims people only at the lulu pages that have my books' Previews on.
But it does not list you as author if you put otherwise during the Project creation phase, (which you can revise). The Spotlight header does not have to apply to the content.
Oh yes, I have found your old posting now. The answer was NO, and no posting after that contradicted me ...

Re: Out with the old (Storefront), in with the new (Author Spotlight)

I just published my first book for general access. Where is my spotlight? When I followed the Knowledge Base instructions and clicked on the title in my Project List, nothing happened. According to the instructions, I was supposed to be prompted to build my Spotlight. Help? Thanks.

While I agree with everybody here on the 'spotlight' being useless - I'm happy to report that you CAN get rid of it:

on the page where you edit/customize the spotlight there is a 'delete' option/button. You get several warnings about this being irreversible (good!) but once you confirm that you want to delete your spotlight, yes, really, please do it, your old storefront comes back to life.

At least mine did, and I'm really happy with that. :smileyhappy:

Why would you want to get rid of it? It is not usless, few even said that it is, it's just not as flexible as the old one.

Re: Out with the old (Storefront), in with the new (Author Spotlight)

Hi Everyone,

You can absolutely delete your Author Spotlight at any time. Deleting your spotlight right now will bring back your Storefront. At the end of the month though, Storefronts are going to be completely removed from the Lulu system and you will not have a Spotlight or a Storefront.

If you don't want a Spotlight, that is completely fine. You will still have your books available in the Lulu marketplace.

If you find yourself with your old Storefront again and want to set up your Spotlight before we finish clearing them out, you can go here. If you wait until we remove Storefront completely and then want a Spotlight, you will have to wait until you create a new book or revise an old book for the option to create one to show up again.

Yes, Author Spotlight lacks some of the functionality that Storefronts had and I totally understand the frustration. I know there are a lot of thoughts on how to improve them in Suggest, look over them and add your Kudos to the ones you like and suggest new ideas on how to improve them. In 2012, we are going to be adding a lot of marketing functionality to Lulu. Some of that functionality will be for Author Spotlight. If you add your ideas to Suggest, I will work with the Product Team to get them heard.

Re: Out with the old (Storefront), in with the new (Author Spotlight)

Hello David.
So, if the we go back to the old Storefronts but they are going to be removed in 15 days, what is the point of going back to them then?
But hang on, do you say we will not have Spotlights either?! Or do you mean if we go back to the old Storefront and you delete them a Spotlight will not be auto-created in place of it?
But but, is the Spotlight not also the Lulu Marketplace?
Oh, Spotlights will return if we create a new book or revise and old one? It will return with all the content if just one new book is created or one revised?

One thing that has never been answered is why did you replace the old Storefronts, which were not very flexible to start with, with one even less flexible?
