Got some great news today!

I have been selected to receive the American Astronautical Society’s Ordway Award for Sustained Excellence in Spaceflight History.

“The Ordway Award is named in memory of Frederick I. Ordway III (1927-2014), human spaceflight advocate and chronicler of the history of rocketry and space travel. The award recognizes exceptional, sustained efforts to inform and educate on spaceflight and its history through one or more media, including (1) writing, editing, or publishing, (2) preparation and/or presentation of exhibits; or (3) production for distribution through film, television, art, or other non-print media.”

  • Very well done, Ron.
  • Impressive. For writing or graphics or some other element you described above?

Probably more for the writing than anything else. Though I do create illustrations for some of my books on space history, most of the art in them is historical and from sources such as NASA or from my own collection. There have been about half a dozen books—The Dream Machines, Spaceships, The Art of Space, Space Stations, The History of Rockets, mission to Mars and a four-book YA series, Rockets, Space Exploration, Satellites and Robot Explorers. This in addition to two or three dozen magazine articles and professional papers.

  • Art is a great talent to possess. I never had that and often regretted it! Painting was something I'd have liked to try my hand at but I couldn't draw for beans so painting didn't seem very promising. One of our fellow interlocutors here had mentioned that you were something of an illustrator and now I understand better some of the points you've been making on the other thread we were exchanging comments on!

Well, no offence at all to Ron, but he's not the only artist here :)

Actually, I make my living as an illustrator. If you are interested in what I do, you are more than welcome to visit my website www.black-cat-studios.com  There is more about me there than anyone could possibly want to know.
