BASIC QUESTIONS NB-NEWBIE ALERT

Please can you help a self-publishing newbie.

I want my book (a standard text memoir) to be 13cm x 20cm (8"x5" in old money). I have formatted the pages on my MS Word document accordingly. I have converted into Times New Roman but I cannot find anywhere what is the correct FONT SIZE for the upload process.

Also: is upload for Lulu to convert the right way to go? Did I read somewhere that there is a template?

Finally: did I miss a UK helpline number to be able to talk wth someone at Lulu?

Any answers gratefully received.

I want my book (a standard text memoir) to be 13cm x 20cm (8"x5" in old money).

A5 is close to that and the pages in your document will have to be of the size of the book you wish to and can create on Lulu. Here are all the sizes >>   http://www.lulu.com/create/books   (there's other handy links there also.)

I have formatted the pages on my MS Word document accordingly.

    See above :-)

There is none. It can be whatever size you want. The Project Wizards work on the pages regardless of font size. But for the main bodytext I would suggest 12pnt.

Also: is upload for Lulu to convert the right way to go? Did I read somewhere that there is a template?

There are templates (at the above link) but they can be troublesome if you do not know how the defaults are set, and by the time you work it all out you may as well have created your own.

I would suggest you examine many books to look how they are laid out, including the contents at the front.

Finally: did I miss a UK helpline number to be able to talk wth someone at Lulu?

Well you are talking in the forum. I am not sure there is one. Try here >>   http://www.lulu.com/support   but unless you want to pay Lulu for a Service ...

... than there's little need to contact them at this point. Lulu is mainly set-up with help and advice pages.

PS: I just noticed you asked for a UK Helpline. Lulu are based in the USA and have no actual presence elsewhere that I am aware of.

  • ibe formatting,can I do it on a PC?

What else could you do it on? What you write has to be uploaded to the net. Granted you could use an Android tablet or whatever, but it's best if you create your manuscript on Word.

In a nutshell Lulu is set up for use via a PC.
