Proof is no Proof it seems

I just finished uploading my latest book. Ordered a proof copy of it and it was perfect. The pages are full colour and there was no white bleed on it at all. Satisfied the book was ready for sale I ordered 8 for the shop. Every copy sent had a bleed on some or all of the first 40 pages and then none on the rest. The proof copy had none of these white bleeds but was a perfect full colour book. I am rather disturbed by this. What is the point of a proof copy if it is perfect, but lazy cutting makes the next customer copies poor quality?
