Adult art book?

Hey all! I'm pretty new here, but I've ordered from Lulu before and have always been very pleased with the print books I've purchased.

A project I am currently working on is an adult art book. I am doing all the artwork myself, so copyright infringement, etc. is nothing to worry about. However, the artwork is pretty erotic. It's adult art for a reason haha. I can't really find a definite answer of whether or not something like this is allowed. I've read that someone had something fairly similar, so long as the cover wasn't displaying provocative areas and the preview samples also did not show nudity along with a warning about the book being for adult audiences was in the product description, that it was fine. Is this correct? I just want to make sure because I don't want to get in trouble!

It's been a project I've had in mind for almost five years now, and those that know about it are very excited. I just want to make sure I'm following the rules and wanted to know if Lulu would print something of that nature.

Thank you very much!

Of course it's allowed. Just click on "contains explicit content" on the second page under your title.

But what do you class as adult because offence is often in the eye of the beholder and little to do with age.

As Maggie says, Lulu now have an Adult filter you can classify your book in. But people still also have the option to click on the Report This button on our Spotlights (and on most other sites). It would also be harder to sell your book without a Preview and if you opt for an ISBN then places like Amazon will create a Preview that you have little control over.

It's not really a case of if Lulu will print it (which Lulu do not do anyway, they farm it out to printing companies) because set at Direct only those you give the link to can see and buy it. Set on private only you can. So in those cases no one can even really have need to click that Report This button or object at all.

If you are opting for an ISBN and Distribution you have to keep in mind that your idea of erotic may be another's idea of porn, and some times it is.

But it's not only Lulu who have rules. Take a look at my site. My host has the same sort of rules and do not object to my art.

    Example page >>  http://www.kevinlomas.net/SF-ART-1.html

I would class those as 'adult' art, and yet kids from an early age play PC and console games with characters in them just as scantily dressed.

    Thank you very much!

  • Thank y'all for your answers!
My classification of adult/erotic art is, well, naked men drawn in a "pin-up" style. Yes, genitalia will be visible. However, there is one character per picture, and no sexual intercourse is taking place at all.
