I am new to the community and am in the editing process of my first book. I am thinking about possibly doing this as an ebook. I am struggling on creating cover art. Any tips?
Look on Amazon for covers in your genre and try to emulate it without copying.
You can buy a cover image from istockphoto.com, add the textual content using Photoshop, print as high res jpeg or PDF and upload to Lulu.
Think of the main theme of the book or even a a scene that is intriguing, high action, or in some way unique. You want the cover to convey roughly what the book is about, and you want people looking at it to be drawn to it. Avoid lone references to things in the book you have to read in order to understand.
Feel free to post your work here as you progress. Lots of helpful folks. Just remember to keep an open mind about feedback.
Thank you. Very helpful
Here is some general advice: http://www.lulu.com/blog/2013/05/how-do-you-judge-a-book-by-its-cover-of-course/
And read the many threads already here about such things.
Just to share I used an Illustrator for our book and we placed the best illustration on the cover. We know that this has drawn many people to the book as it is both bold and different.
I can create a cover for you for $100 AU. it will reflect your story and be eye catching. I put a lot of work into font background and any forground imagery. You get full approval before file is complered and handed back to you
